The first step is to schedule a Home Energy Assessment. As a participating contractor of the Mass Save Heat Pump Installer Network Home Mechanics is qualified to conduct the assessment. During the assessment, our energy specialist will inspect your home or business to identify areas where energy efficiency improvements can be made.
2
After the assessment, the Home Mechanics energy specialist will provide you with a list of recommended upgrades and improvements, estimated costs, and potential savings.
3
Your dedicated energy specialist can help you choose which upgrades best fit your situation. They can also provide you with financing options and help with any paperwork.
4
Once you've selected your upgrades, our team of qualified HVAC specialists will install them. Some upgrades may be eligible for instant rebates at the time of installation, while others may require additional paperwork to receive the rebate.
5
Once the upgrades are installed, you'll receive a rebate check from Mass Save to help offset the cost of the improvements. The amount of the rebate varies depending on the type of upgrade and the level of energy savings achieved. If Home Mechanics is managing the rebate process for you, your rebate will be applied at the time of your estimate.

Mass Save is an initiative sponsored by Massachusetts' natural gas and electric utilities and energy efficiency service providers, including Berkshire Gas Company, Cape Light Compact, Eversource, Liberty, National Grid, and Unitil.
The Mass Save Program is funded by the energy efficiency charge on all customers’ gas and electric bills. So by cashing in on these incentives you are getting back the cash you already were charged!
Heat pumps are a technology that moves heat from one location to another. In the summer, heat is pumped out of a home to make it cool. In winter, heat is pumped into a home to make it warm. This transfer operation is accomplished with a refrigerant that circulates between an indoor fan coil (air handler) unit and an outdoor compressor.
Whether you want to supplement the heating & cooling in a drafty room, or you want to replace your heating system with an energy efficient system that provides climate control in all four seasons, a mini-split heat pump offers many advantages:
Typically, Mass Save rebates are processed in six weeks or less of receiving a completed application. However, incomplete applications, missing documentation, or a high volume of applications can prolong the process.
By allowing Home Mechanics to manage the Mass Save rebate for your new ductless mini split heat pump system, you can get immediate credit from your rebate.
If you choose to submit the rebate application yourself and have not received your rebate within the expected timeframe, you can contact the Mass Save Customer Service Center at 1-866-527-7283. They can provide an update and resolve issues that may delay processing.
In general, ductless mini-split heat pumps are more energy-efficient than central heating and cooling systems because they don't lose energy through ductwork, which can account for up to 30% of energy loss in a central HVAC system. Additionally, mini-split systems can be set up to only heat or cool the rooms or zones currently being used rather than heating or cooling the entire house, resulting in further energy savings.
The effectiveness of a heat pump for cooling will depend on the size of the pump, the efficiency of the unit, and the temperature and humidity levels in the building. In general, heat pumps can be more efficient than traditional air conditioning systems because they use less energy to move heat around rather than generating cold air.
In very hot and humid climates, heat pumps may not be as effective for cooling. Luckily in Massachusetts, heat pumps are an ideal air conditioning solution.
After the installation of your new heat pump system, it can take six weeks before you receive your rebate from the Mass Save program. This means the homeowner needs to pay the full amount of the system weeks before they receive their rebate.
To help homeowners take advantage of Mass Save incentives, the program now allows homeowners to designate their rebate payments directly to their approved Mass Save contractor. This allows approved contractors to apply for the rebate on behalf of their customers, deduct the amount from the invoice, and receive their rebate in two to three weeks.
Home Mechanics is an approved contractor in the Mass Save Heat Pump Installer Network, allowing us to submit the rebate for you.
